Unless you have been living under a rock, you are bound to have come across this mysterious compound or at least heard about CBD. CBD oil and other products have skyrocketed to stardom as it looks like an answer to almost every disease humanity hasn’t been able to cure so far, be it anxiety, chronic pain, or insomnia; you name it. CBD for insomnia is gaining popularity; therefore, we are going to examine how it works for the sleep disorder.

But first, doesn’t CBD come from marijuana and get you high? No, it does not! CBD is derived from hemp and is not a psychoactive compound and cannot get you ‘high.’

Is CBD good for insomnia?

What Does Research Indicate?

Before we dive into the discussion of CBD’s effectiveness, you need to know what really causes insomnia.

Many factors come together to disturb your sleep. Research shows insomnia may be caused due to the following reasons:

  • Loud noises around you or an uncomfortable bed.
  • Medicinal drugs which might cause troubled sleep.
  • Consumption of drugs such as caffeine or tea.
  • Mental health disorders such as anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder.

If you experience insomnia due to anxiety or trauma, CBD can help you ease out and improve your sleep. Though more research is needed to prove it, initial results look highly promising.

How CBD Works To Improve Sleep?

Studies claim CBD can improve sleep; however, they lack explanation as to how it does that. More clinical studies are needed to get to the root of how CBD works against insomnia. However, a handful of studies have concluded that CBD safely treats insomnia. Though we do not know how it works inside the body against insomnia, we know that it calms nerves and reduces anxiety and depression, which helps sleep better at night.

How To Use CBD for Insomnia?

There are several ways you can consume CBD to help improve sleep. It includes:

  • Edibles such as CBD gummies
  • Vape concentrates
  • Oils and tinctures
  • Pills and capsules

Each form is different concerning how quickly CBD gets infused into your body. Generally, vaping is the quickest way to introduce CBD to your body, but it is not recommended since vaping may cause respiratory issues. The dose you take and the interval between these dosages is decided by considering a lot of things. Your weight, individual body chemistry, and the nature of your sleeping troubles, all combine in determining a sufficient dosage. The same dosage amount does not work for everyone. Most clinical trials on CBD and insomnia were based on giving around 250mg to 1500mg of CBD per day. It is preferred to start with a low dosage, monitor the results, and then gradually increase the dosage until you find the correct amount. It is important to note that the effects do not show overnight. It can take some time before you start feeling better, so stay calm and wait for the results to show, as this is a natural way to get rid of insomnia.
